Standards, deep cuts, and unexpected songs reimagined through jazz.Chicago-based jazz vocalist, pianist, and actor Isabella Isherwood brings an actor’s storytelling instinct and a jazz musician’s freedom to songs both familiar and unexpected. Drawing from her acclaimed debut album, The Sweetest Sounds, Isherwood moves effortlessly between the Great American Songbook and surprising reimaginings of deep-cut musical theatre, Tom Waits, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Amy Winehouse, and more. For Isherwood, every song is a scene to inhabit, every lyric a story worth telling. The result is an intimate, playful, and deeply personal evening of jazz that asks a simple question: what makes a song a standard?
Isabella Isherwood is a Chicago-based jazz vocalist, pianist, actor, and recording artist whose work brings an actor’s storytelling instinct to the freedom and intimacy of jazz. Her acclaimed debut album, The Sweetest Sounds (Sabrina Records), produced by pianist and vocalist Champian Fulton, has earned international critical praise and radio airplay. Isherwood has headlined Chicago’s Jazz Showcase, performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival and Chicago Symphony Center, and recently made her New York City debut. The granddaughter of longtime Detroit jazz performer and club owner Jerry Libby, she carries that musical lineage forward with a repertoire spanning the Great American Songbook, musical theatre, and unexpected contemporary songs.
“On her debut album, The Sweetest Sounds, vocalist and pianist Isabella Isherwood delivers a poised and intimate work with a warm conversational style and tone, allowing her natural warmth to carry these timeless songs with confidence and charm… a wonderful introduction to a very talented new voice.” -The Jazz Page by D.
