Introduction to Quantum Computing
Abstract: Quantum computation is an emerging computational paradigm based on quantum principles, with the potential to significantly impact various domains, such as materials science, cryptography, and optimization. Although large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum processing units (QPUs) have not yet been realized, noisy intermediate-scale quantum computers exist. Quantum software development kits (SDKs) can be used to execute quantum algorithms on the quantum hardware, and also to simulate their behavior on small-scale quantum computers using only classical computers comprising CPUs and GPUs.
In this hands-on workshop, we review some of the basic quantum computing concepts, introduce quantum SDKs such as Qiskit and CUDA-Q, and use them to study quantum computation using the simulators. We discuss how to construct quantum circuits and, compute expectation values of operators using these SDKs. This can be useful for learning about quantum algorithms and applications.
