Join Us in the UCD Comhar Programme
Comhar (pronounced Core) is the Irish word for partnership, teamwork, and cooperation. The UCD Comhar Programme offers a dynamic series of cultural experiences and interactive workshops designed to build intercultural competence, personal connections, and global citizenship among all UCD students. Participating in these events helps you navigate a fast-changing, globalised world while giving you the opportunity to earn our programme Certificate of Engagement and credit toward the UCD Advantage Award.

Navigating Transition, Culture, and Communication
This interactive session introduces key concepts of intercultural awareness and communication, helping you understand how culture shapes values, assumptions, and communication styles. The workshop explores the experience of transition, culture shock, and adjustment when living or studying in Ireland, providing practical strategies to navigate these changes. You will reflect on your own cultural perspective, address common barriers to communication, and develop tools to build empathy, confidence, and inclusivity.
What You Will Learn From Attending
- Master Key Intercultural Concepts: Understand how cultural values directly influence perception, behaviour, and non-verbal communication.
- Manage Culture Shock & Transition: Recognise common experiences of culture shock and homesickness, gaining practical strategies to adapt effectively.
- Apply Inclusive Communication: Identify and overcome barriers to intercultural communication to foster a welcoming campus environment.
Earn Your Certificate of Engagement:
To earn your UCD Comhar Certificate of Engagement (and gain credit toward the UCD Advantage Award), you must complete one Core Workshop (facilitated by ICOS or GORM Media) plus any Additional Workshop in the series. The session you are viewing counts as a Core Workshop.
Once completed, simply attend any Additional Workshop in the Comhar series to finish your programme requirements!
