About this Event
This 3 hour in-person workshop will be delivered by Louise Thompson of Mindful Museums. The workshop will introduce arts, museum and heritage professionals to trauma-informed practice and how it applies within an arts and culture context.
The session will explore
- What is trauma? How does it impact the way people engage with the arts and culture? Exploring barriers and what cultural organisations can do to improve access.
- Categories of trauma relevant to arts and culture.
- The 6 principles of trauma-informed practice and how they translate into museum and gallery practice.
Louise Thompson is an independent consultant that helps museums, galleries and heritage organisations create more inclusive, trauma-informed and wellbeing-focused experiences for communities, staff and volunteers. With over 20 years' experience in the cultural sector, including 15 years at Manchester Art Gallery, Louise specialises in trauma-informed practice, mindfulness and creative health in cultural organisations. She has worked with venues such as Art Fund, Wellcome Collection, Plus Tate, Moderna Museet and National Museums Scotland.
