The Details
Join us for a day of woodland management and become a Citizen Forester with City of Trees!
This event is not suitable for groups of corporate volunteers.
We are carrying out this work to maintain a healthy and sustainable woodland that supports local wildlife and the surrounding community. This will involve removing some invasive and dominant species from the woodland, and planting native species in their place.
All tools will be provided; please wear suitable clothing for outdoor work and sturdy footwear. Drop in for an hour or stay the whole day - you will be guided throughout the day so no prior experience is necessary. This activity is suitable for adults and older children.
The work we'll be doing will involve using tools like loppers, secateurs, tree poppers, pruning saws and bow saws. We will be using these tools to prune back trees, remove invasive species, and widen the paths. Litter pickers will also be provided. Training will be provided on the day.

Parking/public transport
- There is limited residential parking along Peterwood Gardens, and some parking at the end of Lesley Road. Please be mindful of leaving space for residents to use their driveways.
- Buses 23 and 255 operate in the area, and bus 15 operates between Manchester Oxford Road and Firwood Avenue bus stop, which is a 5-minute walk from the site.
About the site
Stretford Meadows is a Public Park. The area where we will be working has uneven ground, thick vegetation, and informal paths through the woodland. A portaloo will be available on site for volunteer use.
