We are kicking off with a live theatrical reading of the play WITNESS written by Cynthia Grace Robinson. Following the performance, the floor is yours. Meet the playwright, share your voice, and dive into an honest, community-driven discussion on preventing violence and cultivating healthy, lasting connections in our relationships, our families, our communities and our world.
About the play: A coming-of-age story about a young girl’s journey to freedom while growing up as a child witness to domestic violence. From girlhood to the brink of womanhood, SHAHIDA yearns to step out of the shadows of her abusive home and claim her own space in the world. With her best friend LUCINDA by her side, and spanning their formative years from girlhood to the brink of womanhood, this is a raw, yet tender look at a young woman claiming her own space, as she discovers that while home kept her captive and taught her how to hide, her spirit is finally ready to be set free. This play is based on a true story.
