There is something about the beginning of December that invites us inward.The days are shorter. The light leaves us earlier. Nature itself seems to grow quieter, even as our own lives often begin to move a little faster.
So before the season fills up, we are creating a little space.
A place to arrive.
A place to soften.
A place to listen.
A place to sing, if you feel called.
Lori and I have shared kirtan together for many years, although it has been quite some time since we have gathered in this way. It feels especially meaningful to return to it now.
Kirtan is a simple call-and-response practice using voice, rhythm, and repetition. While it is rooted in an ancient devotional tradition, you do not need to know the chants, consider yourself a singer, or have any previous experience.
You can join your voice with the room.
You can listen.
You can close your eyes and simply receive.
There is no pressure to participate in any particular way. Sometimes just being present within the circle is enough.
Doors open at 6:00 PM so you have time to come in, get comfortable, and find a soft place to land before we begin together at 6:30.
Chairs, floor cushions, and BackJack floor chairs will be available. Feel free to bring your own blanket, cushion, or anything that helps you settle in. We recommend comfortable layered clothing, socks, and a water bottle.
Pre-registration is appreciated so we can reach the minimum needed to hold the gathering. Once that minimum has been met, walk-ins will be welcome as space allows. This is a donation-based gathering, with a $10 suggested donation at the door. All proceeds will be shared back into our community, with a focus on caring for friends in our community who are without shelter. We never want finances to be a barrier, and your presence is the real gift.
As we enter the quieter season, perhaps this is simply an invitation to step out of the noise for a little while and into a room of shared sound, breath, and presence.
