About this Event
This is a TWO SESSION Workshop. Attendees will need to attend BOTH sessions.
Session 1: Friday December 11th, 6pm-8pm.
Session 2: Wednesday December 16th, 6pm-8pm
Carve, ink, and print your way through this two-session deep dive into linoleum block printing. In the first session, you'll learn the full arc of block carving — from composition and design to techniques for creating expressive lines and textures. Then you'll take the skills you learned and work on your block at home before the second session, with tools provided to take with you.
In the second session, you'll bring your block to life to make your own block printed wrapping paper. Participants will learn the ins and outs of hand printing — working with patterns and tessellations to make a beautiful gift wrap to take home. Expect to take home several yards of paper and the ability to create infinitely more at home!
This course is intended to demystify the process of block printing. We aim to empower participants to build upon the skills learned and hone their own creative approach to the craft both in class and at home.
This workshop is part of our Handmade Holiday Gift series! This series of workshops provides the instruction & materials needed to create handmade and upcycled gifts for friends and family in preparation for the holiday season or any occasion.
What's Provided Carving tools will be provided to take home between sessions for at-home work. Bring a block you're already working on or your own tools if you have them — they're welcome here!
What to Wear / Safety Notes Session 1: No special attire required. Session 2: Wear clothes you don't mind getting inky — ink will be involved!
Skill Level: Intermediate. Some prior experience with relief printing, drawing, or carving is helpful.
