inside... presents: Carlos Bica | I Am The Escaped One & Azul's 30th Anniversary 🎻✨Get ready for a truly special night at inside... as we host the legendary Portuguese bassist and composer Carlos Bica, bringing two of his most iconic and visionary projects to our stage.
„He is both a remarkable composer and a musician who knows how to mix his folkloric, lyrical roots with any modern style he encounters.“ – Double Bassist
When Carlos Bica plays, the double bass begins to sing. Moving fluidly between fado, jazz, rock, and contemporary music, he has developed a unique sonic language that defies categorization—poetic, open, and always in transformation. His compositions unfold slowly like songs without words, leaving a lasting resonance.
For inside..., Bica presents two central formations of his creative journey: the boundary-pushing trio „I Am The Escaped One“ and the legendary, iconic ensemble Azul, celebrating its 30th anniversary!
🎵 I Am The Escaped One
Nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, this trio creates a dense, agile sonic space where acoustic depth meets electronic textures. Melodic bass lines clash with raw sounds, while structured improvisation encounters spontaneous interventions. The music remains highly accessible yet entirely unpredictable.
🎉 Carlos Bica & Azul – 30th Anniversary!
„Melodic landscapes that could have come from Radiohead or Tortoise“ – Der Tagesspiegel
Azul has been the beating heart of Bica’s work for three decades. The ensemble’s sound is transparent, multi-layered, and driven by immense musical intuition. Living in the balance between structure and freedom, melodies emerge, transform, and disappear—creating a dense yet airy atmosphere that never stands still.
