Agenda
🕑: 07:00 PM - 07:25 PM
The Steminist Revolution: From Misogyny to the Moon
Host: Chloe Lipton
Info: The Steminist Revolution: From Misogyny to the Moon explores how women’s place in engineering has evolved, from a history of exclusion to women helping shape some of humanity’s most ambitious engineering projects today. Chloe will look at how far we’ve come, why the STEM gender gap still matters, and the extraordinary contributions women have already made to engineering. Looking towards our future on Earth and beyond, the talk asks what more we could achieve if we stopped leaving half the population’s talent behind, and why closing the gender gap will be essential if we want the very best minds helping to engineer our future.
🕑: 07:25 PM - 07:45 PM
Reading life through a tiny hole
Host: Jonathan Pugh
Info: This talk will tell the story of the winning company behind this year’s MacRobert award for engineering innovation. It will cover how biology, chemistry, electronics, semiconductor chips, software, and artificial intelligence came together to create a portable technology capable of reading DNA in real-time - and how applications of this technology can benefit both individuals and society at large.
🕑: 07:45 PM - 08:05 PM
Engineering for Good: Designing a Better Future for How We Live
Host: Lucy Jung
Info: Engineering for good begins with understanding people, their needs, behaviours and the environments in which they live. The talk will explore how human-centred design, scientific evidence and engineering can come together to translate ideas into solutions that create meaningful, sustainable impact. It will also reflect on how these principles can guide the way we design and innovate for the future.
🕑: 08:05 PM - 08:25 PM
When Millimetres Matter: How engineering is changing brain procedures
Host: Katerina Spranger
Info: In this talk we'll learn about Oxford Heartbeat, a company that has developed PreSize, an AI-driven neurovascular software that makes brain implant procedures safer.
🕑: 08:25 PM - 08:45 PM
Treating communities as designers of their own resilience, not as consultees?
Host: Milly Hennayake
Info: Climate change will reshape how we live, and engineers cannot design resilient futures from in isolation. Milly will explore how engineers in the water sector can work with communities, not simply for them, treating people as capable partners in the decisions and trade-offs that will shape their future.
🕑: 08:45 PM - 09:05 PM
From Farm Waste to Clothing - Engineering a Sustainable Fashion Industry
Host: Idan Gal-Shohet
Info: Fibe is a London-based material science startup developing a new generation of resilient, affordable and sustainable textile fibres out of the world's most abundant agricultural waste streams
