About this Event
Gayle Price grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, the younger of two. Her mother was Priscilla Bowman, who cut her first sides with Jay McShann for Vee Jay Records in 1955. One of them, "Hands Off," spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart that December. Gayle credits her mother with shaping her work ethic, and the band's website still calls Bowman the original Rock and Roll Mama.
Today Gayle sings lead in Pure Sweetness, and she manages the band too. It's a cover band by its own description, based in Kansas City, Missouri, and it moves through R&B, pop, rock, gospel, and country; its site pitches the sound to urban and adult contemporary audiences alike.
She's played Indigo Hour here seven times since August 2024, and the band headlined a Friday night in September. The band's site says it won Best Live Band at the 2026 Kansas City Peoples Choice Awards.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Friday, December 4, 2026, at 5:30 pm. $5 general admission; complimentary for AJM members.
