Join NFB Education and our partners at the Royal BC Museum for a free professional learning experience designed for educators on October 23.
Indigenous Voices is a new interactive learning resource from the National Film Board of Canada, created in close collaboration with Indigenous educators, Elders, youth, filmmakers and knowledge holders from across the country. Through 13 thematic pathways, the resource brings together NFB films, first-person perspectives, student activities and educator supports to help teachers engage with Indigenous histories, experiences, knowledge and perspectives in their classrooms.
During this hands-on session, educators will explore selected pathways from Indigenous Voices and experience some of the resource’s paper-and-pen activities from a student perspective. Together, we’ll consider how these materials can support meaningful learning, reflection and conversation in the classroom.
Schedule
1:00–1:20 p.m. — Arrival and registration
1:20–3:20 p.m. — Indigenous Voices educator workshop
3:20-3:30. BREAK
3:30–4:00 p.m. — Brief presentation of resources from Living Cultures and Living Archives
4:00–6:00 p.m. — Optional time to explore the museum
Who should attend?
This workshop is designed for educators interested in bringing Indigenous voices, histories and perspectives into their teaching. You do not need any previous experience with Indigenous Voices to participate.
