In Conversation at WAM: What We Do Not See📸 Saturday, 3 October 2026 | 12:00
📍 Wits Art Museum (WAM)
Join us at WAM for a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring the exhibition What We Do Not See and the role of photography workshops in South African townships and rural communities, particularly where access to photography education is limited or non-existent.
Facilitated by Jodie Pather, the conversation brings together Tshepiso Mabula, Zanele Dhlamini, Matsediso Dichaba and Naledi Mkupa.
The discussion will explore how photography can create opportunities for expression, storytelling, learning and connection — and what becomes possible when young people are given the space and tools to see, create and tell their own stories.
Of Soul & Joy: This Is Home
The conversation will also feature work created through Of Soul & Joy, during a photography workshop designed and facilitated entirely by women for young women living at Merafe Hostel in Soweto.
Created in celebration of Women’s Month, the workshop provided a safe and empowering space for participants to explore the theme “This is Home” through photography, storytelling and conceptual thinking.
Come and engage with the exhibition, hear directly from our panellists, and explore the work and conversations that emerged from this meaningful initiative.
🎟️ Admission: Free
🚗 Parking: Free parking for the walkabout is available in the garage beneath the Museum.
