Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a charette/what does it entail?

A: The charette is a fast-paced mini design problem where you get to strategize and work with fellow interior design students from other schools.

Q: Who will I be teamed with?

A: Each team will be composed of students from various grade levels and differing schools. This challenge allows you the chance to work with students you might not normally work with!

Q: How much experience do I need or what do I need to prepare?

A: No experience needed! Just come with a positive attitude and a willingness to dive in and learn from the experience.

Q: What are the benefits of participating?

A: You will have the opportunity to network with professional designers, work with students from other local schools, and last but not least, a chance at advancing to NeoCon for the national Charrette!

Q: What happens after the event?

A: You will have fantastic memories! You’ll also be able to include your experience on your resume!

Q: What do I need to bring with me?

A: Please bring a laptop + charger, as this year's charette will be using an online platform (Miro) to compile the presentation. There will still be a hand sketching + drawing component to the prompt and you may bring whatever supplies you’d like for that! We’d recommend trace paper, some pens and pencils to sketch, a ruler, prisma markers or colored pencils. We will also have some supplies on hand for you to use. The only thing that isn’t allowed are material samples (we’ll provide those).

Q: How do I get there?

A: Drive or Public Transportation! Carpooling is strongly encouraged. There is free parking available at the Elements office, park in the parking spaces along the south side of the building, turn into the alley from Blake St.

Q: Will food be provided?

A: Yes! Breakfast, snacks & lunch [with a variety of options considering dietary needs] will be provided during the event.

Q: How much does it cost to participate?

A: $7 for IIDA Student Members, $28 for Non-Member Students. $10 for IIDA Professional, Associate or Industry Members & $28 for Non-Members.
