ICMP: Just Peace Open Day 2026

Discover the vital work of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) during Open Day in The Hague. ICMP is an intergovernmental organization tasked exclusively to work on the issue of missing persons, working with governments, civil society organizations, justice institutions, international organizations and families throughout the world to address the issue. ICMP endeavors to secure the co-operation of governments and other authorities in locating and identifying persons who go missing as a result of armed conflict, human rights abuses, disasters, organized crime, migration and other causes, and to help societies recover and pursue truth, justice, and state accountability. Based in The Hague – the international city of peace and justice – ICMP works globally to secure the rights of missing persons and their families.

On 20 September, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, ICMP will open its doors to the public. The program includes a presentation from 10:30 to 11:15 am, providing an overview of ICMP's mission and activities, followed by a Q&A session. Visitors can also stop by our Human Resources and Communications & Publications tables and test their knowledge on the fortune wheel quiz. This is a unique chance to learn how ICMP's work in The Hague has an impact around the world, and why it matters for truth, justice, and reconciliation.

To mark its 30th anniversary, ICMP is holding its an Exhibition, "Every Missing Person Has a Name," at Atrium City Hall (Spui 70, The Hague), from 1 to 28 September. The exhibition offers insights into three decades of ICMP's work restoring the names of tens of thousands of missing persons, supporting governments in securing the rights of survivors, and advancing justice and accountability. The exhibition is produced by ICMP in collaboration with the City of The Hague.

And how do people working in The Hague help make the world a better and fairer place? That's why the Just Peace Open Day is here to find out!

For one special Sunday in September, ahead the International Day of Peace, Just Peace The Hague and more than 20 partners will open their doors to you for a look behind the scenes and to hear the stories of the people and history behind each institution.

If you are planning on visiting more organisations during the Just Peace Open Day, make sure to only book one session in a given time slot. Multiple bookings in the same time slot (at one or multiple organisations) made by the same individual will be cancelled.

De ICMP is een intergouvernementele organisatie die zich uitsluitend richt op de kwestie van vermiste personen en wereldwijd samenwerkt met overheden, maatschappelijke organisaties, justitiële instanties, internationale organisaties en families om dit vraagstuk aan te pakken. Op 20 september opent de ICMP van 10.00 tot 12.00 uur haar deuren voor het publiek. Het programma omvat een presentatie van 10.30 tot 11.15 uur met een overzicht van de missie en activiteiten van de ICMP, gevolgd door een vragenronde. Bezoekers kunnen ook terecht bij de stands van Human Resources en Communicatie & Publicaties en hun kennis testen met een quiz aan het rad van fortuin. Dit is een unieke kans om te ontdekken hoe het werk van de ICMP vanuit Den Haag wereldwijd impact heeft en waarom dit van belang is voor waarheid, gerechtigheid en verzoening.

Ter gelegenheid van het 30-jarig bestaan ​​organiseert de ICMP van 1 tot en met 28 september de tentoonstelling "Every Missing Person Has a Name" (Elke vermiste persoon heeft een naam) in het Atrium (Spui 70, Den Haag). De tentoonstelling geeft inzicht in drie decennia werk van de ICMP: het teruggeven van namen aan tienduizenden vermiste personen, het ondersteunen van overheden bij het waarborgen van de rechten van nabestaanden en het bevorderen van gerechtigheid en verantwoordelijkheid. De tentoonstelling is tot stand gekomen door een samenwerking tussen de ICMP en de gemeente Den Haag.

Den Haag staat wereldwijd bekend als de ‘Internationale Stad van Vrede & Recht’, en bijna elk monumentaal gebouw in de stad speelt een rol in het bouwen aan een rechtvaardiger en vreedzamer wereld.

Van het Vredespaleis tot het Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel, de straten van Den Haag ademen geschiedenis! Maar wat gebeurt er eigenlijk elke dag achter die grote deuren? En hoe helpen mensen die in Den Haag werken de wereld beter en eerlijker te maken? Daarom is er de Just Peace Open Dag om daar achter te komen!

Voor één speciale zondag, rond de Internationale Dag van de Vrede, in september openen Just Peace Den Haag en meer dan 20 partners hun deuren voor jou om een kijkje achter de schermen te nemen en verhalen te horen van de mensen en de geschiedenis van elke instelling.

Als je van plan bent om meerdere organisaties te bezoeken tijdens de Just Peace Open Dag, zorg er dan voor dat je slechts één sessie per tijdslot boekt. Meerdere boekingen in hetzelfde tijdslot (bij één of meerdere organisaties) door dezelfde persoon worden geannuleerd.
