Humble Aggression: A Community Celebration of Life began with Jay.
Created in honor of his birthday, this gathering started as a way for the people who love him to come together, say his name, play his music, share memories and celebrate the life he lived.
But grief has a way of showing us just how many people are carrying someone.
So we opened the celebration wider.
This is for Jay — and it’s for your person, too.
Humble Aggression is an immersive community gathering where grief doesn’t have to look or feel one particular way. You can remember. You can laugh. You can cry. You can dance. You can make something. You can tell a story. You can simply be around people who understand what it means to miss somebody.
Through music, art, interactive installations and community, we’re creating a different kind of space for remembrance.
Not just a place to mourn the people we’ve lost.
A place to celebrate that they were here.
WHAT IS HUMBLE AGGRESSION?
Humble Aggression was Jay's.
We don’t want to put words in his mouth or redefine something that belonged to him. But as we’ve created this celebration, those two words have continued to carry meaning.
Humble enough to remember where you came from. Aggressive enough to keep going.
For this gathering, Humble Aggression lives somewhere between softness and strength — allowing ourselves to fully feel the loss while still choosing to live, create, connect, laugh, dance and carry the people we love forward with us.
THE EXPERIENCE
This isn’t a traditional Celebration of Life.
Throughout the day, guests will move through immersive installations, music, art and shared experiences designed around memory, grief, love and connection.
☎️ ONE LAST CALL
If you could have one more conversation, what would you say?
Pick up the phone and take a moment with someone you miss.
Say what you never got to say. Tell them what’s happened since they’ve been gone. Tell them you miss them. Tell them you’re okay. Tell them you’re not.
Or simply say their name.
One Last Call creates space for the conversations grief doesn’t always get to finish.
🌸 THE GRIEF GARDEN
Who do you carry?
Create a flower in honor of someone you love. Add their name, a message or a memory, then plant it alongside the flowers created by others.
Throughout the celebration, individual memories will grow into one collective Grief Garden — a visual reminder of just how much love we carry into the room with us.
🎧 THE GRIEF GROOVE
Sometimes a song can bring somebody back into the room faster than a photograph ever could.
The Grief Groove puts music at the center of remembrance.
Kansas City DJs will take the decks throughout the celebration, sharing music dedicated to the people they carry.
Their songs. Your songs. Our memories.
Come dance for somebody.
🎨 ART + CREATIVE INSTALLATIONS
Artists and creatives from our community will transform grief, memory and love into things we can see, touch and experience.
Expect interactive moments throughout the space designed to make remembering feel active, personal and shared.
🤝 COMMUNITY
Maybe the most important installation isn’t an installation at all.
It’s us.
The people who show up.
The conversations between strangers. The stories we tell about somebody we’ve never met. The hug from someone who understands. The laugh that happens in the middle of a hard memory.
Grief can feel incredibly isolating.
This day is a reminder that none of us have to carry it alone.
