About this Event
What are the most daunting points of such a journey?
In its early days, the U.S. space program had little experience with rockets, reentry, or even the lunar surface itself.
The same engineering challenges still confront any Moon-bound mission, and the hard-won lessons of the Apollo program now inform Artemis.
Drawing from firsthand interviews, this talk will uncover lesser-known challenges and the creative solutions that powered humanity's first journey to the Moon.
Brandon R. Brown is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of San Francisco and the author of several books about science for the general public, including 2019's The Apollo Chronicles: Engineering America's First Moon Missions.
