Horn Fair is back for 2026. This year Charlton House is celebrating Black History Month with the launch of our African Threads exhibition – and we will be extending the celebrations to Horn Fair, which will have an African theme.
Enjoy African food stalls, crafts and music, as well as a variety of other food and craft stalls. Global Fusion will provide African entertainment. African Threads brings together twelve objects or groups of objects from the Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust collection alongside the work of local Ghanaian textile artist Lorelle Aboagye. Lorelle will be bringing her loom to Horn Fair to demonstrate her work. We will also be hosting a fancy dress competition.

History of Horn Fair
"The Horn Fair at Charlton boasts a captivating history that stretches back to the medieval era. First held in Charlton, within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the fair was likely established in the 13th century. Traditionally taking place on October 18th, the Feast of St. Luke, it became renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and wide range of activities.
The name "Horn Fair" is believed to have originated from the custom of carrying horns or using horned objects during the festivities. One common theory suggests the name comes from the practice of blowing horns to mark the start of the celebrations or from the symbolic use of horns in various rituals. The fair was also occasionally referred to as the "Horn Play" due to the theatrical performances held during the event.
Over time, the Horn Fair evolved into a lively celebration, featuring entertainment, market stalls, food, and plenty of revelry."
