About this Event

The Hoodoo Heritage Festival returns to Nashville on Saturday, October 24, 2026, for a full day of Black Southern spirituality, scholarship, music, movement, art, ancestral remembrance, and community.

Founded in 2022, the Hoodoo Heritage Festival creates space in Tennessee for Hoodoo to be honored, preserved, and celebrated by the community it comes from. Hoodoo is more than spells and spiritual products. It is a living African American tradition shaped by survival, creativity, faith, resistance, and ancestral knowledge.

Meet acclaimed Hoodoo scholar and author Dr. Yvonne P. Chireau, official Hoodoo consultant for Sinners; Smithsonian curator Dr. Brittany Levingston; cultural anthropologist, author, and museum founder Tony Kail, M.A.; and additional educators, artists, instructors, and culture bearers.

WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES

Festival workshops explore Hoodoo and the blues, pleasure-centered manifestation, intentional crochet, water spirituality, tea-making, ancestral traditions, and more.

COMMUNITY ANCESTOR ALTAR

Guests may bring photographs, candles, cigars, fruit, flowers, or other small offerings to add to the community altar. Please take personal items home. Remaining offerings will be respectfully cleared after the festival.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Whether you are deeply rooted in the tradition, beginning to learn about your heritage, or supporting Black cultural preservation, the Hoodoo Heritage Festival offers an opportunity to learn, celebrate, reconnect, and experience Hoodoo as a living tradition.

COMMUNITY RESPECT

This is a culturally specific event centered on Hoodoo as an African American spiritual tradition created and preserved by the descendants of enslaved Black people in the United States. Guests are expected to respect the community, its elders, its ancestors, and the closed nature of the tradition.

Info: A beginner-friendly intentional crochet workshop. Limited to 8 participants.

Info: Explore pleasure-centered manifestation, embodied intention, and the role of pleasure in spiritual and personal practice.

Honoring the Fat, Loving, Sensual Body and Treating It Like a Temple!

Info: As Fat people, we deal with external and internal fatphobia that can make it difficult to see our bodies as sacred, sensual, and worthy of being honored. Every Fat person deserves and needs space to begin the journey of honoring their body.

Through this workshop, Ms. K will guide participants in giving themselves grace for being Fat, exploring self-care tools, developing affirmations that honor their Fat bodies, and using gentle movement to connect with their sensuality. Participants will be encouraged to embrace their beautiful Fat bodies as sacred temples.

The Mojo of the Mermaid

Info: Dive into the spiritual power of water with Lolo Lavish, The High Siren. This workshop explores the element of water in Hoodoo, sea goddesses, and practical ways water can be used in conjure and spiritual practice.

Make Your Own Medicine Workshop: Fire Cider

Info: A hands-on herbalism and Kitchen Rootwork workshop where participants will learn to make fire cider from scratch using traditional herbs, roots, fruits, and warming spices.

Kenya will explore the traditional uses of ingredients such as garlic, ginger, horseradish, onion, citrus, and warming spices while introducing Kitchen Rootwork practices that bring together herbs, food, intention, prayer, and ritual in the home.

Participants will create their own fire cider, set an intention for their preparation, and leave with their own jar, a recipe to recreate it at home, and practical knowledge for continuing their herbal journey.

Meet & Steep with MinTea: An Interactive Tea\-Making Experience
Host: Mintea

Info: Join Terrell Davis, known as @callmemintea for an interactive tea-making experience at the Hoodoo Heritage Festival. Gather at the tea counter inside Gram’s Coffee Shop to meet MinTea, explore the art of making tea, and enjoy conversation as you sip.

Your $25 ticket includes a cup of tea and a small gift bag to take home.
