Take a stroll through the past and see our history as told by the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader!
In 2025 the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader donated several items to the Georges River Libraries Community History collection, including bound copies of the Leader dating back to its first issue in June 1960.
This exhibition celebrates this donation and explores how a local news institution covered significant historical events.
Visit Hurstville Library to pay tribute to the historical power of the front page of the paper. Not just the headlines, but also to everything else important enough to make the front page in history.
This History Week exhibition showcases cover pages from the Leader taken from the day of or after significant events in local and national history, along with context provided by the Georges River Libraries Community History team.
Explore how the Leader chose to cover these events and what other news it deemed worthy of front page coverage on these significant days.
This exhibition can be viewed during Hurstville Library opening hours, Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm, excluding public holidays.
Bookings not required but you can register to receive reminders.

Age: All ages, but recommended for ages 12+.

Terms and conditions:
- For participants aged 12 years and under, parents and/or guardians of children must remain in the library for the duration of the program. For safety reasons, one parent/guardian can only be responsible for a maximum of 4 children (1:4 ratio).
- For participants under the age of 16, parent and/or guardian contact details must be provided at the time of booking.
- If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the advertised start time and there are people in the standby queue, your ticket may be allocated to the standby queue.
- If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces, repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations may result in bookings being refused in the future.
