About this Event

HEX PEST is a genre-defiant 5 piece rock band from the SF Bay Area with roots in the local DIY punk scene of yore, and a heart in our (often uncertain) shared present. Razorcake Magazine called them “Heartfelt psych rock that’s dirty and jangly, like a tougher Brian Jonestown Massacre’, making comparisons to ‘Dead Meadow, Nikki Sudden, Lucero, and the Gun Club’.Members’ former/other bands include: Black Cat Music/Criminals, (00’s Lookout! Records) and Darker My Love/The Distillers.

-------

Oakland's The Queen & I is the sound of bittersweet endings and euphoric beginnings: shoegaze's blurry psychedelia on a collision course with power pop's clear-eyed, unabashed hooks. Bummed out but always looking heavenward. Play it loud.

Alpine Decline is a guitar+drums duo that relocated from Los Angeles to Beijing in

2010, attracted by the city’s brimming underground music scene. The band’s sound touches the

nostalgic sweet spot for fans of psych, shoegaze, noise rock and ‘90s indie, without sounding

too much like any of those. During their time in the Big Smokestack of China’s mega-dense capital, they formed a close working relationship with a legend of the Beijing indie scene, musician and producer Yang Haisong, an unofficial third member of the band helping guide their path from Beijing back to LA in 2016. Yang’s steadfast hand behind the dials have added a constantly expanding layer of depth and substance to the band’s work, which is grounded in an intensely personal digestion of the swirling cultural malaise of the day, dueling themes of lies, love and trust, but always uplifted by a romantic, desperate mission to shape beauty from the chaotic noise around them.

Urban noise, indeed, has been a constant in Alpine Decline’s life. They sought it in their initial

move to Beijing, camping out just beyond the city’s fifth-ring road and smelting their trade out of

the ambient grit and smoke created by the city’s never-ending 21st century churn. They returned

to Los Angeles at the end of 2016, plugging back into their old networks at the very dawn of the

post-Trump world order.

Critics have described the band’s evolving sound as immersive and boundary-defying. The Los Angeles Times called their music “suspended between earth and sky, searching for the supernatural in the mundane,” while L.A. Record noted its connection to “a new American mysticism,” tracing influences from countercultural traditions to experimental art movements. Smart Beijing highlighted its shimmering quality and kinship with artists such as The Microphones, Sonic Youth, and Guided by Voices.

Flowers for Angela is a Berkeley-based alternative rock trio formed in 2026. Vocalist and guitarist Eugenio Geiken and bassist Phillip Leyva first connected while performing together in a play at the Berkeley Playhouse. Leyva later invited his longtime friend Camron Haynes to join on drums. The band has since begun playing shows across the Bay Area, and their debut EP, Take Your Hand, is now available on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music.
