Heroes of the Massacre River — Film Screening & Panel Discussion

Join Haitians at Northwestern University and the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago for a special screening of Heroes of the Massacre River, the 2026 Film for Peace Caribbean Award Winner, produced by Samuel Dameus (Faces of Haiti & BOYO Films).

The documentary follows the construction of a historic canal in Ouanaminthe, Haiti — built through konbit, a deeply rooted Haitian tradition of collective action. This grassroots initiative unfolds against a backdrop of rising tensions between Haiti and the Dominican Republic over shared water resources, raising urgent questions about sovereignty, diplomacy, and self-determination.

Two hundred years after 1804, the echoes are unmistakable.

Following the screening, join our distinguished panel for a moderated discussion and Q&A.
