Join us for an enlightening heritage walk through the historic Wellington Botanic Garden, sharing the stories of heritage trees. In 1868, James Hector was appointed manager of the then 13-acre (5.66 hectares) area set aside for the Wellington Botanic Garden. It is now home to some of the oldest exotic trees in New Zealand, and is both a Garden of National Significance and the first public garden in New Zealand to be classified as an historic area by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
The one-hour heritage walk will focus on many of the notable specimen trees planted since 1868.
Meet at the Founders' Entrance, Glenmore Street.
