This October, Te Whare Taonga o Te Awamutu Museum invites you to explore some of Waipā's most significant historical landscapes through AKE, AKE, AKE: Remembering Through Place, Story, Film and Community. Running from 21-24 October 2026, the programme offers a series of free public events leading into Rā Maumahara, the National Day of Remembrance for the New Zealand Wars.Wednesday 21, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October | 9.30am – 12.30pm
Depart and return to Te Awamutu Museum by bus for guided visits to Rangiaowhia and Ōrākau. Free, bookings essential via Humanitix Bus Tickets. Suggested for ages 16+. Limited to 30 people per bus.
Two perspectives, one shared journey: Museum staff will guide the tours, sharing mana whenua, Māori and Pākehā perspectives to support thoughtful, place-based learning.
Rangiaowhia: Explore a key Waipā site connected to the New Zealand Wars through guided context and reflection.
Ōrākau: Visit a nationally significant place, connecting local history with remembrance and wider Aotearoa New Zealand stories.
Prize draw: Bus trip attendees go into the draw to win a signed copy of Vincent O’Malley’s The Great War for New Zealand: Waikato 1800–2000.
