After years of creating, serving, teaching, performing, and building community in Downtown Baltimore, MRI Studios will close its doors on November 8, 2026.
This isn't the ending we hoped for.
Jimmie and I have invested more than money into MRI Studios. We invested our time, creativity, relationships, labor, and resources into turning this space into a home for artists, young people, entrepreneurs, educators, families, and community organizations. We made improvements to the space and poured ourselves into creating a place where Baltimore's creative community could gather, learn, perform, celebrate, and build.
Unfortunately, our experience with the building has become increasingly difficult. We have dealt with recurring leaks and building issues that have affected our ability to operate. At times, those circumstances contributed to canceled events, refunds, lost opportunities, and damaged relationships with people who trusted us to provide a professional space. We attempted to work with ownership toward a more sustainable rental arrangement and a new lease, but we were unable to reach an agreement that made sense for MRI's future.
So we have made the difficult decision not to renew our lease.
Our final day at MRI Studios will be November 8, 2026.
But we're not asking the community to help us hold onto a building that is no longer working for us. We're asking for help closing this chapter responsibly and creating room for the next one.
Funds raised through this campaign will help us handle the expenses associated with closing and transitioning MRI Studios, protect as much of what we've built as possible, and give us breathing room to determine what comes next for the work, programs, artists, and community that MRI has supported.
And before we leave, we want to celebrate.
On Saturday, October 17, from 4–7 PM, we're inviting our community back to MRI Studios for a final fundraising celebration. We want to see the students, artists, families, collaborators, clients, friends, and supporters who helped make this place what it became.
