Held+Free is delighted to be joining forces with Stories that Stir® for a special fundraising event bringing together the power of storytelling, connection and community.Held+Free exists so that when a woman business owner faces a personal crisis, it doesn’t have to cost her the business, livelihood or future she’s worked so hard to build.
Stories that Stir® exists to break down barriers, stir conversation and inspire positive change. For one very special evening, those two worlds come together.
On 11th November, six courageous women will take to the stage to share raw, honest and deeply personal stories inspired by the theme UNSTOPPABLE. But perhaps not the kind of unstoppable we’re used to celebrating. Not pushing through at all costs. Not pretending everything is fine. Not carrying it all alone. The kind of unstoppable that becomes possible when you are held while you find your way forward.
Profits from ticket sales, along with donations made on the night, will support the Held+Free Foundation and our work walking beside women carrying more than most people realise, while the businesses they’ve built continue to ask so much of them.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, 4th September with Early Bird tickets at $87+bf before moving to the full price of $107 + bf.
Your ticket also includes a delicious grazing table to enjoy before the storytelling begins, with food allergies catered for.
Please join us at Mezzanine House, 75 King Street, Sydney for an unforgettable evening of stories from women who have lived through some of life’s hardest seasons, and are willing to stand on a stage and share what happened next.
Because sometimes hearing another woman’s story reminds us of something we need to hear: Your story isn’t over either.
Meet your Storytellers:
Life Rebooted – Diana Ryall AM
Diana began her career as a Maths teacher and in 1968 became a computer programmer at a time when few women were entering the emerging computer industry. She spent 20 years at Apple Australia, rising from the bottom to the top by 1997. Then came a major pothole. Today, she shares how she navigated that pothole, rebooted her life and discovered that sometimes, a setback can be the beginning of something equally rewarding.
Skin Deep –Rowan
Rowan takes the audience beneath the ink to reveal the stories that permanently changed her. It’s funny, unexpected and occasionally uncomfortably honest. Because every mark has a story.
I do – Sophie Brown
Sophie has already faced a lifetime of challenges, including miscarriages, a premature baby, decades of anxiety and now her husband is living with dementia. Sophie has the courage to share her story so far knowing that the difficult days are yet to come. Determined to keep her business alive, Sophie Brown shares what drives her to be unstoppable.
Mother Succer – Tara Shelton
Tara thought she could do it all, until one day she couldn’t. Entrepreneurship, motherhood and mental health collided, and there was no one to hold her or her business while she held her baby. After experiencing PNDA twice, she couldn’t risk it again. At 35 weeks pregnant with her third child, she closed her thriving business, Little Succers. Four years later, she shares her story for Held & Free in the hope that when life gets tough, women can get the support they need, and their hard-earned businesses can survive too.
Milk & Ash – Nimarta Verma
Nimarta had the dream life. New house, new baby, a business she'd built. She also had a dread that hit before she opened her eyes each morning, and a wish she could disappear. Milk & Ash is a story about what we bury, what we bring into the world, and what we have to burn to find out which life was ours.
Please note: This is an 18+ event, and some stories shared at this event may touch on sensitive experiences, including illness, loss, trauma and domestic and family violence.
