Heidelberg University Track & Field Alumni Open Track & Field Meet - Saturday, December 5thfull schedule TBA
hey everyone! hope you’re all doing well and surviving this heat wave
if you recall, almost two months ago in early May I sent a message to this group about an Alumni Speaker series we’re starting this fall.
now that we’re 7 weeks or so from actually kicking the thing off, I wanted to re-ignite discussion and leave an excel doc for those who would like to solidify themselves for any of the dates that aren’t yet taken (most aren’t):

if you need more direction, feel free to text me (312-244-0112) but in year one I was simply hoping this could be a way for our team to connect with those who came before them.
� final important note: please mark your calendar! our first ever Alumni Open Indoor Track & Field meet has been moved from Friday, December 4th to Saturday, December 5th and will coincide with our first XC/TF (combined) banquet in quite some time.
the hope is to have the meet from 10am-3pm or 12-5, something like that. and follow it up with dinner and community while celebrating our last three seasons (Indoor & Outdoor ‘26 as well as XC ‘26).
originally I had planned to host the dinner/banquet at the indoor track (Frann’s Fieldhouse) but our AD would prefer it to be off-site so we will likely be holding it from around 6-8pm at Carmie’s in town.

here’s the old message from May…
attention Berg XC/TF alums - as I close year two here at Heidelberg I look to make some big changes over the summer heading into Year 3. I’ll be preparing to onboard my first dedicated distance assistant Tanner McMain (a soon-to-be Trine grad) and it’s my aim to get organized, if for no other reason but to allow him to be as successful as possible in his new role.
this will come with some new traditions. some social media experiments will be coming in August but more
importantly for this chat, we’re looking to implement a 15 (or so) week Alumni Speaker Series this fall.
it will evolve, but at the moment I’d like it to look something like this:
The XC team moves in Friday, August 14th. Not counting the week of Thanksgiving I believe that gives us 15-16 full weeks from XC Camp Week to Indoor Meet #1 and I would like to fill one Wednesday afternoon (or evening) slot per week with an alumni visit. 30-60 minutes for an alum of the program to introduce themselves, tell stories, give advice…whatever that person chooses to bring to the table.
