Join Bury STEPS for a delightful countryside stroll through one of Greater Manchester's most picturesque nature reserves. Starting from the popular Healey Dell Tea Rooms, this easy clockwise circular route offers a wonderful mix of woodland paths, riverside scenery, historic railway heritage, and peaceful open countryside.
Leaving the tea rooms, we follow well-maintained paths into the heart of Healey Dell Nature Reserve, where the sound of the River Spodden accompanies us through ancient woodland. The route takes in some of the reserve's most attractive scenery, with opportunities to admire the impressive Victorian railway viaduct that towers above the valley, a reminder of the area's industrial past.
As we continue clockwise, the trail winds through tranquil woodland and open sections, providing plenty of chances to appreciate the changing seasons, local wildlife, and beautiful natural surroundings. The generally gentle terrain makes this an ideal walk for all abilities, including those looking for a relaxed and sociable outing.
The route eventually loops back through the reserve towards Healey Dell Tea Rooms, where walkers can reward themselves with a well-earned brew, cake, or light lunch while enjoying the friendly atmosphere.
