About this Event
HBCU Health Collective presents Culture and Cardiac Care, an intimate evening bringing together medicine, culture and community for an important conversation about heart health.
As alumni, friends and the broader HBCU community gather in Washington, DC for Howard Homecoming, HBCU Health Collective will create space for a timely conversation about cardiac amyloidosis—a frequently underdiagnosed condition that can lead to heart failure and disproportionately affects Black Americans.
The evening will begin with a networking reception, followed by a special screening of BridgeBio’s Don’t Pass on Your Heart Health! Real Stories. Real Talk. Recognizing ATTR-CM. The film features a candid conversation with Howard H. White, Doug E. Fresh and Sway Calloway about heart health challenges facing Black Americans and recognizing ATTR-CM.
Following the screening, Roger A. Mitchell Jr., MD will moderate a live talk back with cardiologists Raymond Young, MD; Reginald Robinson, MD; and Joseph Quash, MD, alongside Corey Smyth, BlackSmithNYC (De La Soul), continuing the conversation around heart health, awareness and the importance of culturally relevant health conversations.
