About the series
Autumn is when qi draws inward and downward. In Chinese medicine it's the Metal season — a time to slow down without dropping your responsibilities, let go of what's unnecessary, and prepare the body and mind for winter.
In daily life, that can look like:
- Earlier bedtimes, earlier mornings
- Slow-cooked, nourishing foods — soups, roasts, squash, root vegetables
- Steadying the emotions through breathwork
- Deepening close relationships rather than seeking new ones
- Adjusting movement to support autumn's inward shift
The classical instruction for autumn movement is "do the rooster." Over four weeks, we'll explore what that means and how to practice it.
What we'll cover
- Week 1 — Yin and yang in the body, and the autumn practice of "doing the rooster"
- Week 2 — Balancing the pelvis and aligning the three Dan Tien
- Week 3 — Four of the Eight Brocades of Silk, preparing for winter's stillness
- Week 4 — Review, questions, and building a personal autumn routine
Each class combines qi gong, applied anatomy, breathwork, and principles from Chinese medicine and Daoist health practice. Work at your own pace and range of comfort.
