About this Event
HardHaQ is a one-week hybrid hackathon that gives undergraduate students across North America the opportunity to engage with industry-grade quantum hardware and challenges. Designed to simulate real-world settings, the event encourages participants to dive deep into the physical layer of quantum systems - interfacing with real devices, simulating architectures, and solving complex hardware problems. Unlike most quantum competitions, HardHaQ focuses specifically on hardware, offering a rare chance for students to gain hands-on experience with the tools, systems, and thinking that drive today’s quantum technologies.
The event kicks off with an asynchronous week of virtual sponsor-led workshops and lectures, equipping students with the foundational knowledge needed to tackle the upcoming challenges. During the week, participants work asynchronously on sponsor-provided problems, allowing them to collaborate and innovate at their own pace. The experience culminates at an inperson weekend where sponsors can engage directly through workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and more, hosted at Canada’s illustrious McMaster University.
