Imagine a mountain of beautifully decorated presents under the Christmas tree. Beauty, magic and mystery are at the heart of Christmas presents. What’s inside is made more alluring by the wrapping of the box. Remember staring at the wrapping paper for hours, wondering what yuletide treasure was inside? Remember the shimmering, joyful imagery of Christmas cards? The art and design of holiday gift-wrapping paper and Christmas cards has been pivotal in creating the iconography of the Christmas season. Candy Canes, toys, Santa Claus and snowmen evolved with the advent of Christmas cards and wrapping paper.
See it all at artspace for a special exhibit: Happy Holidays! Wrap It Up! The Art of Yuletide Wrapping Paper and Christmas Cards, designed by William Joyce as it showcases the giddy evolution and vast scale of these holiday traditions. The show’s opening reception is on November 21 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. During the reception, Mr. Joyce will be signing copies of his classic Christmas books, which are for sale in the Artspace Gift Shop.
