About this Event
Hands-On STEM Workshop: Color-Changing Chemistry
Hosted by N.E. Love EMPOWER.
Ever wonder how a cabbage can become a science tool? In this hands-on STEM workshop, students will see a real red cabbage up close, learn where its color-changing juice comes from, and use it to test everyday liquids. They will watch the juice turn pink, purple, or green and figure out which liquids are acids and which are bases.
This highly interactive lab makes abstract science concepts easy to see, measure, and understand. Perfect for curious minds who love hands-on science and creative exploration. Don’t miss this exciting STEM adventure!
🔬 What Participants Will Learn:
- Explain what a chemical reaction is
- Identify acids and bases using an indicator
- Predict and observe color-change reactions
- Connect a real red cabbage to the indicator juice used in the lab
🍬 Participants Will:
- Explore a real red cabbage and its color-changing juice
- Test acids and bases with real lab tools and watch the colors change
- Solve a Mystery Liquid with color clues
- Watch an acid and a base neutralize each other
- Take home a deeper understanding of how indicators reveal whether a substance is an acid or a base
📚 NGSS Alignment
This workshop aligns with the following Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):
- MS-PS1-2: Chemical reactions, acids and bases, and indicators.
- Science & Engineering Practice: Analyzing and Interpreting Data
- Crosscutting Concept: Patterns
