Networking breakfast event for growth businesses and advisers featuring a panel discussion on how to use debt funding for expansion.
About this Event

Founders needing additional capital for growth businesses face a dilemma; should they dilute their stakes by taking on equity investment or should they seek debt funding?

An increasing number of founders are now taking opportunities to achieve growth without equity dilution by choosing the debt option, or a balance of debt and equity.

Until relatively recently, there was little choice. Once businesses had grown beyond bootstrapping or family-and-friends capital raising, founders needed to choose between seeking equity funding from a private capital firm or debt funding from a major bank. Banks generally required loans to be secured by personal assets such as a family home and there was very little flexibility in how loans were structured.

But over recent years, the landscape has changed markedly. Major banks have moved away from financing smaller businesses to reduce their overall risk exposure. This has provided a niche in which specialist non-bank lenders and advisers are now operating and providing a range of products and services. This makes it easier for founders to retain equity as their businesses grow.

Founders and their advisers are invited to attend a networking breakfast event Growth without equity dilution: Funding mid-market business expansion in the Sydney CBD on Wednesday 16, September.

Speakers in a panel discussion will include Kelly Morton of Skye Capital, who advises on sourcing capital; Ryan Eagle of KPMG, a specialist in turnaround and restructuring, James Murphy of Next Capital, a leading investor in mid-market growth companies, and Chris Matthews of ScotPac Business Finance, an expert in structuring asset-backed finance packages.

The panel will be moderated by business and finance commentator, Peter Switzer.

The panel discussion will explore topics such as:

Funding growth without giving up ownership.

Deciding between debt and equity to finance growth.

Structuring management buyouts.

Market outlook and opportunity areas.

Cash-flow and ATO pressures.

Sectoral opportunities.

Access to capital and execution risk.
