What do the experts at the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability actually do? Why do they do it? Who benefits? Find out at Grounds for Conversation, a new monthly coffee hour open to all Duke students.
The series kicks off Friday, September 25 with Lydia Olander (see full bio), a program director at the Nicholas Institute who leads the Nature Activation Hub and adjunct associate professor at the Nicholas School of the Environment.
She’ll discuss her work on climate risk and resilience, nature-based solutions, and breaking down barriers to investing in nature—issues she's worked on at Duke (and in the Biden administration) often in collaboration with state, regional, and federal government agencies and/or environmental organizations. Fun fact: Olander’s team includes three Duke alumni—two Master of Environmental Management (M.E.M.) graduates and one with both an M.E.M. and a Duke undergraduate degree.

Our October conversation will feature Kyle Bradbury, faculty fellow at the Nicholas Institute, and assistant research professor with the Pratt School of Engineering and Nicholas School of the Environment. Bradbury will discuss energy and climate data analytics. More info coming soon!
