About this Event
Join Jayk Wilson for an immersive exploration of the gong as an instrument of resonance, vibration, texture, and space.
Over approximately 45 minutes of sound, the gong becomes the focus of a slowly unfolding sonic experience. Rather than following a predetermined sequence or guided meditation, the sound develops organically in the moment, moving through shifting harmonics, intensities, rhythms, sustained resonance, and periods of spaciousness.
The experience is primarily about listening. You can sit, lie down, close your eyes, meditate, or simply allow yourself to become absorbed in the sound. There is nothing you need to accomplish and no particular state you are expected to reach. If you'd like to bring a yoga mat and incorporate your own self-guided movement practice, that is welcome as well.
Jayk Wilson is an Austin-based multi-medium sound artist, improviser, and systems engineer specializing in audio technology. His work spans improvisational drumming, electronic music production, and gong performance. His approach to the gong is informed by both a technical fascination with sound and a personal interest in meditation, perception, and altered states of consciousness. Rather than treating the gong simply as a tool for relaxation, he approaches it as a highly expressive instrument for exploring how sound can shape attention, perception, and experience in real time.
