About this Event
The Enduring Classics Book Club is devoted to the enduring works that shaped the literary world—and continue to shape us.
Led by Riley Blanks Reed, Godmothers’ head of storytelling, The Enduring Classics Book Club is a space to return to the books that have shaped the literary landscape, and to read them slowly, thoughtfully, and in good company.
This series brings together four works that explore longing, identity, devotion, fear, and the quiet architecture of a life. Books that reveal themselves sentence by sentence. Books that ask for your attention—and reward it.
Here are our next meeting dates and selections:
- Tuesday, September 29: “The Passion According to G.H.”
- Friday, October 30: “Dracula” at 5pm*
- Thursday, November 19: "The House of Mirth"
- Thursday, December 10: “Mrs. Dalloway”
*For our October gathering, Godmothers is thrilled to partner with State Street Ballet in celebration of the world premiere of “Dracula: A Dark Shadow” at the Granada Theatre on 10/30 and 10/31.
Rather than our traditional book club discussion, Riley will be joined by Dr. Nicole Callahan—President of State Street Ballet’s Board of Directors, the company’s resident dramaturg, and co-adapter of Bram Stoker’s novel for the ballet—for a live conversation and audience Q&A.
Book club attendees are welcome to attend the ballet afterwards; tickets can be purchased here: https://statestreetballet.com/dracula.
Our other monthly gatherings will feature focused, text-centered conversation attentive to language, structure, and meaning. Less about takeaway, more about noticing. Less about answers, more about staying with the questions.
This event will be hosted in our third-floor loft space, which is accessible only by stairs.
