About this Event
A Michelin Guide chef from East Devon, heritage cider from the Exe Valley and a table by the river. That's our kind of Saturday night.
Chef Hugo Guest grew up at Glebe House, a Georgian former vicarage in East Devon's Coly Valley. After cooking in London at Sorella and The Marksman and learning from the pork butchers of Italy, he came home and turned it into a 15-acre smallholding, restaurant with rooms and proper English agriturismo. Most of what's on the plate is grown in the kitchen garden, reared on the farm or cured on site, and it's earned them a place in the Michelin Guide.
Find & Foster is Polly and Mat Hilton, who rescue forgotten orchards around the Exe Valley, some over a century old and full of rare Devon apple varieties. Their ciders are made with wild yeast and old-school keeving, and they drink more like fine wine than your average pint. They've been our cider partner since The Crafty Mussel first opened its doors, so this one feels like family.
For the Saturday of Food Festival, Hugo is taking over the Crafty kitchen for a 5-course tasting meny. The Find & Foster team will be there on the night, pairing a cider with every course and telling you the story behind each one (pairing is optional).
Devon on the plate, Devon in the glass.
Part of the South West Series, our week of chef takeovers and collabs with our favourites from the region.
