About this Event
Georgia is considered the birthplace of winemaking with a 8000 year history and pioneering role in the invention of orange or amber wine. In the first of our new tasting series we’ll be delving into this fascinating ancient winemaking region and its history.
‘New wave’ and ‘old school’ Georgian wine making go head to head with Sager & Wine and Peckham Cellars representing three wines each.
Co-owner of Peckham Cellars Luke will represent ‘old school’ with three wines from famous Georgian Winery Pheasants Tears, up against him will be Marianna Fonseca from Sager & Wine showing three styles from modern Georgian winemakers. However as you’ll learn the picture is much more complex with the ‘modern’ wine makers using native grapes and traditional winemaking styles killed off under the Soviet Union, and the styles generally associated with Georgia being a fairly modern phenomenon.
Sager + Wine—the wine import arm of the legendary east London wine bar Sager + Wilde—are known for working with some of the world’s most sought-after producers and have an amazing selection of Georgian wines. As well as the tasting you’ll have the opportunity to chat with wine supremo Marianna about what makes these wines and region so special.
