Geographies of Distance: Remembering Home

India in Venice presents a city-wide programme of contemporary Indian performance, music and poetry across Venice in September 2026, extending the National Pavilion of India at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia beyond its exhibition walls.

Presented by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in partnership with Serendipity Arts and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, the programme responds to Geographies of Distance: remembering home, curated by Dr Amin Jaffer. Bringing together artists working across dance, music and literature, the programme explores memory, movement, migration, belonging and cultural continuity.

The programme unfolds across Venice’s historic public spaces and cultural institutions, featuring One World, a new musical commission by Ankur Tewari; Encounters; Hakchang – Polang (Body Vessel), a new contemporary dance work by Surjit Nongmeikapam; La Casa in India / Beit-e-Bhārat, a multilingual poetry programme curated by Ranjit Hoskote; Common Time; and Seeds of the Sacred – A Bharatanatyam Offering to the Human Spirit, performed by Anwesha Das on 28 September.

Venues include Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello, Mercato di Rialto, Palazzo Grassi, Palazzo Diedo, Teatro Piccolo Arsenal and Venice’s historic campos.
