GECKO INTERNATIONAL 3 hour workshop
Sessions will include preparation exercises and tasks that focus on creating movement for performance. Workshops explore how to devise from a stimulus and how to layer and develop movement and ideas. They also delve into the use of breath and language to express and open doors to accessing emotion through physicality.
Gecko workshops are always highly physical and dynamic and practitioners create a safe and supportive environment to express, nurture empathy and foster deep relationships.
This workshop will be delivered by Gecko’s devising performers, who will guide participants through the workshop, and give an insight into what life is like within a touring physical theatre company. Gecko is equipped and committed to making our workshops accessible and inclusive for disabled participants.
About Gecko
Founded in 2001, Gecko is an award winning, internationally acclaimed physical theatre company, led by Artistic Director Amit Lahav. The company has created 8 critically acclaimed shows, 2 Associate Shows and 2 films. Gecko is currently touring their eighth stage production, Kin, commissioned by the National Theatre, exploring themes of racism, family, migration, and home.
Gecko’s mission is to deepen human connection through physical, visual, visceral and ambitious performance and participation. With a global company of devising performers and makers, Gecko creates work through collaboration, experimentation and play, touring across the UK and internationally.
Their style blends choreography, sound, lighting, set and costume design to create new worlds and uses breath, emotion, multiple languages and metaphor to tell stories.
Young people lie at the heart of Gecko’s community, and education and outreach are key areas of their work. Gecko’s Creative Engagement programme supports the company’s artistic output, inviting performers, teachers, professional artists, students of theatre or dance and the public to bravely and open heartedly delve into new worlds of connection, imagination and discovery through creativity and play.
