GATHERED & LAYERED A Mixed Media Exploration of Paper, Paint, Fabric & TextureWhat happens when you stop worrying about making everything “perfect” and start building art one beautiful layer at a time?
Gathered & Layered is an immersive mixed media course designed for the curious maker who loves paper, color, texture, fabric, and a little bit of beautiful creative chaos.
Together, we’ll explore the art of creating richly layered surfaces using mixed media papers, collage, fabric, hand-dyed materials, ink sprays, Scribble Sticks, stencils, stamps, mark-making, paint, ephemera, and more.
You’ll learn how to create your own papers and textures, experiment with color and pattern, combine unexpected materials, and build layers that tell a story.
This isn’t about creating a perfect finished painting.
It’s about experimenting, playing, collecting, combining, and discovering what happens when one layer meets another.
Throughout the course, we’ll explore:
• Creating and altering mixed media papers
• Collage and composition
• Layering papers, fabric and ephemera
• Fabric dyeing and color experimentation
• Ink sprays and expressive backgrounds
• Scribble Sticks and loose mark-making
• Stencils, stamps and pattern building
• Handwritten marks and visual journaling
• Creating texture and depth
• Adding, removing and revealing layers
• Combining unexpected materials
• Working intuitively with color
• Embracing imperfections and happy accidents
By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of handmade papers, dyed fabrics, painted surfaces, collage elements, texture samples and finished mixed media pieces—along with a whole new toolbox of techniques to carry into your own creative practice.
Come ready to get messy, experiment freely, and make a beautiful pile of things you didn’t know you could create.
(Seriously....wear your paint clothes!)

The Nitty Gritty Details:
*This is A FULL DAY WORKSHOP: 10A.M.-4P.M.
*Lunch is NOT provided. We will have an hour break in the middle of class for you to grab something to eat at one of our local eateries!
*PLEASE wear something that you don't mind getting paint on. (We'll have gloves, but this class can get a bit messy and we don't want ya to get your nice clothes ruined!)

MOST supplies are provided in class!

Please bring a variety of papers that you don't mind tearing up and making into something new.
(20 pieces should be good!)
(Papers should be neutral in color: white, cream, beige)
