FUTURE / ISMS IInternational Symposium · Prague · 30 October, 2–3 November 2026
How have visions of the future shaped architecture, art, and cultural imagination—and what can those visions offer us today?
ARCHIP – Architectural Institute in Prague and the Department of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, invite you to the inaugural FUTURE / ISMS symposium.
📍 Venue: Viaduct Karlín, Prague
📅 Dates: 30 October, 2 November and 3 November 2026
💻 Format: In person and online
The symposium will also be livestreamed on ARCHIP’s YouTube channel – https://www.youtube.com/@architecturalinstituteinprague
The symposium launches an ongoing interdisciplinary research initiative examining the legacies of Futurism and the place of future-oriented thinking in contemporary architectural practice, theory, and cultural debate. It asks how earlier ambitions for technological, artistic, and social transformation might inform—and challenge—our understanding of the future today.
This first edition centres on historical Futurism and its transnational connections, with particular attention to exchanges between Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Japan. Through architectural proposals, artistic experiments, and intellectual networks, participants will explore how Futurist ideas travelled, acquired new meanings, and generated distinct responses in different cultural and political settings.
