Taught by David Jenkins BSc(Hons), Founder of Sports Therapy Scotland, who has been teaching cupping since 2012.
Overview-
Learn Functional Integrated Cupping Therapy (FICT) for pain management and sports rehabilitation.
Techniques taught,-
- Static dry cupping
- Myofascial cupping
- Cupping massage
- Flash cupping
Each technique is taught alongside a musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment. You screen movement before and after applying the cups, so you can see what effect the treatment has had.
About the approach,-
FICT draws on the long history of cupping in traditional Chinese medicine and of vacuum therapies more widely, and on how they have been used for musculoskeletal conditions. Today cupping is used by athletes in professional sport and by everyday clients alike. Our courses have been attended by therapists of all levels, ages and backgrounds.
I'm upfront: there is no strong scientific evidence behind cupping, and this course makes no wild claims. It has stayed in use in sport and wider society for a reason, though. FICT pairs this traditional method with modern assessment and pain-management protocols.
You'll learn how to assess a client and apply negative pressure using plastic cups. The cups lift the surface tissue and change the pressure on underlying structures such as fascia, capillaries and nerves. Cupping is commonly used to help manage pain and support range of movement as part of a wider treatment plan.
