Get ready to dive headfirst into one of London’s most colourful neighbourhoods on our tour of Camden Town!
From rockstars to fashionistas and writers to gangsters, Camden Town has seen it all! But it wasn't always the hustling bustling tourist hotspot that we see today. Over the course of the last 250 years, Camden has transformed from a sleepy, rural village on the outskirts of London, into an industrial powerhouse with the arrival of the Regent’s Canal and sprawling markets, to becoming one of the most visited locations in Britain, with the market now attracting up to 250,000 people per week and offering some of the most exciting shopping options in North London.
During this Free Tour of Camden, your expert tour guide will explain how Camden became the beating heart of London’s counterculture in the 60s, pulsating with punk, ska, Britpop, and rave. And no trip to Camden Town would be complete without talking about Amy Winehouse. Not only will we visit the statue of her inside the market, but we will swing by The Hawley Arms, her favourite pub in the area which now features a fantastic mural dedicated to her memory.
And this won't be the only street art you encounter, along the way. Camden is alive with murals, sculptures and graffiti galore, from the iconic Camden Lock railway bridge to the ever changing back streets, so have your camera at the ready.
Weather permitting, we plan to finish the Camden Free Tour by ascending to Primrose Hill for some of the finest views in London, but your guide will be able to confirm this on the day!
The Camden Tour begins outside Wendy's Restaurant, 189 Camden High Street, London, NW1 7BP.
