About The Big Sea
The price of the perfect wave is greater than you think
Who’s paying the price for your blue health? The $10 billion dollar global surf industry built on a clean, green promise has never been more popular. But surfing has a dirty secret and people are dying.
From filmmakers Lewis Arnold, Chris Nelson and Demi Taylor, The Big Sea is the multi award-winning documentary exposing surfing’s deadly links to 'Cancer Alley', the devastating impact of toxic Neoprene production and the natural alternative that literally grows on trees. Galvanising a movement around it to bring about the biggest change the surf industry has ever seen, this is a story of hope, exploring just what can happen when we come together as a community.
Find out why:
C4 News’s Keme Nzerem called The Big Sea: “One of the most important outdoor films of all time,”
Xcel Wetsuits CMO Ian Stewart called it: “The film that changed an industry.”
Combining stunning cinematography with insights from activists, environmentalists, scientists and industry insiders, this timely tale uses the lens of surfing to connect toxic chemicals to the products we use to enjoy our leisure time. Unwrapping issues of environmental racism, social justice, corporate responsibility and greenwashing, The Big Sea explores the power we have as individuals to effect change
