Free Book Day returns! We have copies of Brian Jacques' most famous novel, the beginning of the eponymous Redwall series.As a kid in the mid 90s, I can't stress how popular these books were in school. It had all the elements of adventure, excitement, and life lessons, but it was never done in a way that talked down to the reader. They were large books for their genre, but the daunting size compared to other children's literature of the time was a strength rather than a drawback. We *yearned* for the next chapter of amazing animal characters.
We learned about the values of diligent work, friendship, and compassion, but we were also shown the horrors and loss of war. Characters died. Jacques did not shy away from it. He showed characters as multi-faceted, and his descriptions of scenes (and especially the feast foods!) made many of us amateur authors seeking to emulate.
Free Book Day is something we put up when we can, the books are given with no strings or attachments. You don't have to sign up for anything. Just a way that we love to give back to our community, and encourage new generations of readers. This is a great book for kids, whether they are up for reading it themselves, or being read to. Parents, seriously, read this to your kids. They will remember the experience for decades, trust me.
