FPAC Harbor Harmonies presents “Romantic Twilights”
Trio Coro presents three works from the twilight of the Romantic era. Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924), nearly deaf and in his late seventies, began his Trio in D minor, Op. 120 (1922–23), a late work of luminous restraint and quiet intensity. That same year, Robert Kahn (1865–1951), a protégé of Brahms, wrote his Serenade in F minor, Op. 73 (1922) as a single sweeping movement of warm, post-Romantic song. The evening closes with Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) and his Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114 (1891), written after clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld drew him out of retirement. It is intimate, autumnal and deeply lyrical.
Trio Coro is a Boston-based chamber ensemble led by classical pianist Hua Ye (Jane). The name comes from the Italian word for "choir," reflecting the trio's vision of three instruments singing together in harmony. The trio debuted in 2021 with "Élégie Russe" at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall, and its programs since have ranged from Haydn and Mendelssohn to Shostakovich. Collaborating with guest musicians, Trio Coro performs both piano trio and clarinet trio repertoire.
