About this Event
Step directly into a storybook and explore the wild, winding ravines of Gully Brook Park with your little nature lover!
Welcome to week two of our Fall Outdoor Wellness series—uniquely tailored for our "Forest Friends" child and adult duos. This week, we are shifting our explorer eyes from the giant rocks to the vibrant canopy and wild creatures of Gully Brook. This hidden gem features towering sweet gum trees, giant red elms, and is a sanctuary for magnificent creatures like the pileated woodpecker and the great blue heron. This adventure is playfully crafted for young children (perfect for preschool age!) and their grown-ups to connect deeply with nature, move their bodies, and explore the outdoors together through sensory play and imagination.
🎒 Our October 13 Adventure Flow
- The Storytime Circle & Special Guest: We will gather outside the main picnic shelter. Look for the colorful pinwheels marking our check-in station! We will kick off our morning with a read-aloud of the classic autumn book, We're Going on a Leaf Hunt. Plus, you'll get to meet one of our special Nature Ambassadors who will be joining us on our safari (one of my friendly chocolate labs)
- Animal Yoga & Woodpecker Breath: To get our bodies moving, we will practice playful, animal-inspired poses. We will practice focusing like the patient Great Blue Herons that fish in the wetlands, stretching wide like Sweet Gum Stars, and trying out a high-energy Pileated Woodpecker Breath!
- The Mindful Leaf Safari: We will take a beautiful walk down the valley trail. Before we head out, each child will get a special "sticky wristlet" (a soft band of tape wrapped sticky-side out around their wrist). As we hike mindfully through the ravines, kids will hunt for and collect fallen red elm and sweet gum leaves, pressing them onto their wristlets to create a gorgeous piece of wearable autumn art!
- Creative Nature Art & Fire Pit Wind-Down: We will finish our flat loop back at the main pavilion area. The park features a lovely fire pit with benches right by the shelter, providing the perfect cozy spot to gather. We will wind down by the fire with a fun, hands-on leaf art activity using our forest treasures before closing our circle.
