We will hike the beautiful Lower Appomattox River Trail from William Patton Park in Petersburg 2 miles upriver and 2 miles back. We will see old dams, mills, canals, past and present railroad bridges, and beautiful rapids. The fall colors should also be great. Halfway through the hike, we will cut up to Historic Battersea and get a tour of the restored 1768 home of the first mayor of Petersburg. Our special guide will be John Zeugner, who will tell us about the historic sites on the trail and give us a tour of Battersea. Battersea Foundation. If interested, we will then drive over to Longstreet's Deli or to Old Towne's Alibi for lunch.
